Thoracic Disc Herniation - What Do You Need to Know About?

Disc herniation is a painful spinal condition that is characterized by rupturing of a spinal disc.

A spinal disc contains a soft gel-like center (nucleus) enclosed in a tough outer casing. Discs sit between each of the vertebrae and provide protection against impacts that our spine receives from day-to-day activities. This is the reason why they are also called shock absorbers.

Sometimes, one or more of these discs ruptures or slips out of its place while affecting the natural alignment of the spine. Such a condition is called disc herniation or slipped disc. This is a painful condition that restricts the patient from taking part in routine activities. Severe cases may need surgery and it will involve the use of orthopedic implants and instruments

Disc herniation can occur in any of the discs in our spine, and in this post, we will specifically talk about disc herniation in the thoracic spine. Read More.
